‘IYA! My name is Lynette (you know, just in case you hadn’t worked it out already). I’m 24 and from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.
For the last five years, I’ve been ‘darn sarf’ in London (cue ‘boo’ing or ‘woop’ing, dependent on your location as you read this). I was there simply because that’s where my training led me. I’ve danced from the age of five and always knew it was what I wanted to do with my life (wow, ‘coz that doesn’t sound cringe). So, after A-Levels, I up-rooted from my lovely little bubble of Knaresborough and headed down to the Big Smoke. I spent the four best years of my life training at Bird College in Sidcup, with some of the most talented and inspirational teachers and choreographers; before holding my breath and moving closer even closer to central London, to Hammersmith.
A year after the move, I turned on my heel and came running back to my lovely little town. I’m glad for my time there, I learned a lot about who I was and all that grown up stuff – but London wasn’t for me. So, I made a change. I came back to my home, to my family, to my friends – and most importantly of all, to dance.
Now, I’ve joined the teaching faculty at my old dance school, Studio 3 Dance Workshop, Knaresborough and also at Danceology, Wetherby, where I taught on several occasions as a guest teacher during my training. And d’you know what, I couldn’t be happier. Finally I’m able to do what I always wanted to. And finally, work doesn’t feel like work. And that’s the dream, right? It doesn’t feel like a chore. I get paid to do what I love!
I’ve had a million people ask if I’m going to start a blog. I umm’d and ahh’d about it for a long time. And finally decided, let’s just go for it. Why not?
So, here I am. To blog about me, about teaching, about performance work and opportunities up here. Who knows what’ll happen – let’s just go with the flow.
Happy reading my loves,
